3. Hinduism

Largest religion in the world

Perhaps the only religion as oldest as the world we live in. Some call it Sanatana, the others call the faith as simply Hinduism. But the fact remains it is a way of life and perhaps the most minutely documented religion of the world. The realms of Hinduism are almost unfathomable, the interpretations as contradicting as the others that follow. For centuries, this faith has caught the fancy of the world by the reverence of its followers in the deities worshipped in idol’s form. Hinduism has been the harbinger of world peace, tolerance and achieving the true purpose of life by performing one’s own “Karma”. Followers of Hindus account for 15% of world population thickly resided in the Indian subcontinent without any aggressive promotion of reforms and fanaticism to take over as the world’s most followed faith.

2. Islam

Largest religion in the world

The fastest growing major religion of the word, Islam professes the Allah or almighty is the supreme of all forces. The faith that started as crusade some 1500 years ago states that Muhammad is the last messenger of God and that the spirit of brotherhood must be followed. Islam has spread its tentacle almost in every corner of the world devising tools of scrupulous teachings and by teasing curiosity among minds with its concept of attaining salvation once converted. Islam as religion has seen polarized opinions with its critics arguing that it promotes fanaticism by treating non-followers/ non-Muslims as “Kaafir”. There have been many religious prophets that have jumped into the repair work, but the disturbing fact remains that the religion is stared at with the view of what is described as “Islamophobia”.

1. Christianity

Largest religion in the world 2019

A religion based on the life preaching Jesus Christ, Christianity remains the largest faith to be followed in the world as the latest data shows its number of followers going up close to 2.5 billion internationally. Christians worship the holy book of Bible that is believed to be the source of all answer for life’s miseries. The faith has primarily two big schools of thoughts namely Catholic and Protestant, each having its followers in huge numbers. Rationality has hardly been challenged in the faith, but the genesis of the religion and the references of Hebrew Bible have been questioned over the time.

Religion is followed for the betterment of society and to promote universal harmony. It is not an article to brandish one’s self-esteem based on a sense of entitlement. No faith has ever sought for reverence from its followers by holding condescending attitude towards other faith and its people who are meant to co-exist.

To put in the words of Mahatma Gandhi; “The essence of all religions is one. Only their approaches are different”.

  1. “Relligion”…what confusion. True religion is FOLLOWING the instructions of the Creator of this world, and in all religions who believe that there is a Supreme Creator, who cares for His Creation, there are the same instructions: love (which means to put first and obey) the Creator, and love His creation. Love means treating others as you would want to be treated-because others ARE you, and you ARE others. We are all connected. It also means treating the earth with care, not selfishness, taking what you want when it means you are ruining it for others. Very simple, yes? But very hard because our tendency is to be selfish. It is pointless to have so many different names for religion. And the most important fact to remember when we are looking at “different” religions is that people may call themselves by the name of some religion, but what they CALL themselves is meaningless if they are not LIVING in love. To denounce and persecute a religious group because of the actions of a few liars means you are just lacking understanding of the truth yourself, or looking for a way to make yourself seem superior. It does not matter what someone CALLS themselves, what matters is how they are living.

  2. The Catholics worship 4 gods – The Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and Mary, unlike the Christians who worship only the first 3. Mary is there because she was supposedly Jesus Christ’s human mother. She was also the only woman in the world who had sex with the Holy Ghost.
Religions that promise suicide bombers that virgins will be waiting for them in heaven and that their loved ones will be looked after when they die, are fanatics. Their leaders and their followers need their heads examined, although it would be very hard to change their beliefs because they are fanatics.
Live and let live. Killing people is not very good advertising for any religion.

  3. The texts is corrupted with lot of fabrication and fallacies about the world’s peaceful religion. It has been the first religion and will always be the first religion that speaks about the characters or behaviour of human regardless of their status. The name of this great religion was mention by all of the prophet including: Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus as well. When the last and final messenger came. He was taught with the last and final revelation in which the name was vividly explained and chosen for us the best of all names to represent God’s religion for ever. In contrary to Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and all the “ism” that brought discrimination among prophets. This religion of peace accept all religious prophets as brothers from the same teacher (Their creator or Allah). Any one who submit to the creator of the entire universe and not associating partners with him is a MUSLIM, and their religion is Call “ISLAM” meaning peace……..

  4. All religions are man made and humans don’t need any religion to survive. I think we all should believe in ourself and think positive about humanity. Keep peace and love each other.

        • Just a correction, Christianity did not start 2000 years ago. It started 6000 years ago when God made a statement in Genesis 3:15 is also incorrect because it started before the creation of this world.

  5. You spoke of all the religions with respect except Islam. “Speading its tentacles”? Scrupulous tools of teaching? You are purposely making Islam sound evil. Contributing to the fuel of Islamophobia by telling a warped version of your own. The Light of Islam will continue to shine no matter what you do to discredit it.

    • I am so lucky that I was brought up in a family life in UK which encouraged self awareness and a love of freedom of speech together with freedom of thought and not being forced into believing unsubstantiated rubbish like all man-made religions, including Christianity and Islam.

So may I suggest to this unfortunate brain-washed follower of Islam that being a free thinker is such a breath of fresh air. You can criticise my Religion whenever you wish and I will simply find another one, after all, life is so short, so just relax

  6. Wrong. Islam doesn’t call all non muslims as kaafir, rather only those who worship idols and doesn’t believe in 1 God. Islam doesn’t call The people of book as kaafir. Hence Islam doesn’t call jews, christians as kafir.

      • Abubakar, just like not all Christians kill Muslims, not all Muslims are killers. So not because ISIS and others kill, that automatically means, all Muslims kill, Islam means Peace. Also, our religion is Islam, but we are called MUSLIMS.
        Peace Be Upon You.

        • Hahaha Islamaphobia… maybe its because its the second largest in the world and still committed to the idea of a holywar, if any of the other religions kill people its a sign that their religion is bad… but for islam they say its just rouge group and its not what the koran teaches… yes most religions teach in someway that violence is necessary the christians literally re-wrote the word of god to be less violent, an the majority of islamic practitioners believe sharia law cannot be reinterpreted and if you know the laws of sharia its unspeakable in todays society. So while there are a large number who practice peacefully I dont think ive ever seen a christian beheading, or gay execution. The religion is fine the practitioners that wont accept their are other ways to live are the problem… and its one you cannot demonstrate in any other major religion…. people who say they arent all bad are right, the ones who say islam is peace prolly arent religious at all let alone know the islamic faith.
