It’s always a tragedy when a large number of populations lose their lives, but it becomes rather worse when this population includes a large number of innocent young children. Here is a list of some of the more unfortunate school massacres, which ended up in taking lives of dozens of children.

10. Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting by Adam Lanza
The incident took place back in 2012, when the country was shocked by news, of how 28 young kids were killed in Connecticut. The shooter was identified as Adam Lanza, who was a 20 year old US citizen, who brutally shot more than 20 6-7 year old kids. He entered the school, after killing his mother who was at their Newtown Home. After killing these innocent children, he shot himself in the head and committed suicide. Throughout the shooting he was cursing and asking the children to ‘Look at him’ and laughing asking them to ‘Come to him’. The reason for his attack on the school still remains a mystery as he has no connection with any staff or children at the school.
9. Red Lake Massacre by Jeffrey Weise
The killing spree took place twice on 2005 21st March, in Minnesota’s Red Lake. This happened when 16 year old teenager named Jeffrey Weise, killed his and his girlfriend’s grandfather at their house. He took his grandfather’s weapons, which was a tribal officer, and went to his Senior High School, where he was a student before. He killed 7 people in the school, injuring more than five other students. He even exchanged gunfire with the police; however he later committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. The reason for his rage was discovered to be bullying at the school which caused personal stress and depression in him.
8. Columbine High School by Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris
The horrific act occurred on 20th April, 1999 in Colorado, when two students of Columbine High School stormed out and murdered 12 students, between the ages of 14 to 18, including a teacher for an unknown reason, which was discovered as the killers committed suicide soon after committing the crime. More than 24 people were severely injured by the attackers, who were aggressively killing people without any reason.
7. University of Texas Clock by Charles Whitman
The incident occurred in 1966 on 1st of August, in University of Texas Clock Tower. The shooter, Charles Whitman, used a rifle to kill his parents, from the observation deck. Later he began shooting rapidly in a homicidal rampage, which lasted for more than 96 minutes. He stood at Austin’s Tower at University of Texas, continuously shooting random people. 15 people were killed during this shooting and more than 31 people were injured. Whitman was killed by police bullet. This is one of the craziest attacks which occurred because of a mental disturbance of the person, which could have been avoided.
6. Oikos University Shooting by One L. Goh
The incident occurred in 2012 on 2nd April, when a gunman named One L. Goh, entered the Oikos University, which is a Korean based Christian university in California and started gunfire. He killed more than 7 people in the premises. He also injured 3, people who were later hospitalized. He was carrying a 45 caliber handgun. It is still considered as the most unfortunate and deadliest mass shooting in the history of the city. The shooter was 43 year old, who was an ex student at the university.
5. Fullerton, California State University by Edward Charles Allaway
The mass murder took place in 1976, when an armed man named Edward Charles entered the California University and killed more than 7 people. He also managed to injure 2 other people, who were severely bleeding. He was carrying a point 22 semi automatic caliber rifle. It is considered as the saddest mass murder in the history of Orange County. The murderer was identified with past history of mental illness and violence. He was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, due to which he was convicted by the court and declared insane.
4. Northern Illinois University by Steven Kazmierczak
The incident occurred in 2008 on 14 February, when an armed man named Steven entered the Northern Illinois University and started a shooting spree in the campus. He was insanely shooting three pistols directly into the crowd. More than 21 people were injured or shot by the gunman, but sadly 5 other student couldn’t survive the attack. The shooter met his fate as he died because of a gun wound which was caused by the gunfire massacre. The University shut all the classes for the entire week, mourning the death of these innocent young lives.
3. Virginia Tech by Seung Hui Cho
The sad incident occurred in 2007 on 16th April in Virginia Tech School. The premises comprises of two attacks with a gap of two hours. It is one of the most intense attacks in United States which occurred in Virginia. Seung Hui Cho killed over 32 people, wounding a good number of kids. He killed himself, afraid of the outcome that he might receive. The reason behind the rage was not discovered. It was later revealed that the killer was going through a personal mental struggle which pushed him to attack these students.
2. Bath School Disaster by Andrew Kehoe
The unfortunate disaster occurred in 1927 on 27th May when lots of innocent lives were taken in a mass shooting in a School named Bath Township in United States. It occurred when a board member named Andrew Kehoe, entered the premises with 3 bombs, this led to a huge stampede, which led to confusion and mayhem. The blast from the bomb killed 45 people, wounding more than 58 innocent students. Later Kehoe killed himself with the superintendent, by blasting his own vehicle. No reason was given for his sudden mental outburst. Yet prior cases of mental illness were detected in the killer. It is considered as the most tragic and disturbing incident that ever occurred in the states.
1. West Nickel Mines Shooting by Charles Carl Roberts IV
The incident occurred on 2006, 2nd October, when a man named Charles Carl, entered a school named West Nickel Mines in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The perpetrator took more than ten hostages, out of which he shot eight girls, who aged between 6-13 years old. 5 girls were killed due to this and more than 6 people were severely injured by his aggressive behavior and gun shots. Later the school was torn down, establishing a new place, named New Hope School. His killing motives were later revealed when his wife confessed that his husband had told her about his urge to molest young girls. He had a history of such abuse, which included two of his relatives, who however denied any such claims.
These are some of the saddest incidents, which were caused by psychopaths or as planned terrorist attacks. Every year more than 100 schools face one or another form of massacre, which results in dozens of deaths, which get unnoticed by the media, because of the small death counts, or preference for other news.
